Memory 02
Name: Toriel
Number: 02
Category: Significant: Positive
Regained: Day 6
Summary: "Ah, do not be afraid, my child."

Yeah, so, you're about to die at the hands of a flower. Not great.

-- huh?
The bullets are gone and you feel...better? You look up at Flowey. Did he do this? He looks just as shocked as you that you're not dead, and then --

--WOW.
Okay, Flowey just got sent flying. You kind of just stare with your mouth open for a second because he seriously just got knocked the heck out of here. You look back at where the attack came from, wondering if you're in even bigger trouble.
...
...and you see a large monster in front of you, covered in robes and wearing a concerned expression. The monster looks off in the direction it just sent Flowey packing and speaks in a soft voice.

She looks at you and gives you a gentle smile.
"Ah, do not be afraid, my child. I am Toriel, caretaker of the Ruins." She folds her hands in front of her. "I pass through this place every day to see if anyone has fallen down. You are the first human to come here in a long time."
She turns and gestures forward.
"Come! I will guide you through the catacombs. This way."
She heads through another doorway up ahead.

You follow -- maybe a little hesitantly. After trusting Flowey went so horribly awry, you're pretty cautious, but it's not like you can turn around and go back, is it? And do you really wanna hang around here in case Flowey comes back? You decide, not really, so you head forward with a bit of expediance.

You come out into a large, purple hallway that's clearly manmade. This must be the Ruins Toriel was talking about. She walks up the stairs and waits for you. You see something shining in front of you and walk up to it.

You follow Toriel up the stairs with a bit more purpose and you both go through. You come out into another room with a closed door and a bunch of platforms of some kind off to one side.
"Welcome to your new home, innocent one," Toriel says. "Allow me to educate you in the operation of the RUINS." Then, as if she's done it hundreds of times, she walks over the switches in a specific order.

Then, she hits a switch at the far end and the door opens. She turns back towards you, a smile on her face. You feel a little confused.
"The RUINS are full of puzzles. Ancient fusions between diversions and doorkeys. One must solve them to move from room to room. Please adjust yourself to the sight of them," she explains and heads ahead. You hang back a bit, glancing at a sign on the left wall.
Only the fearless may proceed. Brave ones, foolish ones. Both walk not the middle road.
Oh. So the key was to walk on the edges and avoid the middle. You think you could've figured that out eventually, but it seems like Toriel just had that one memorized. You follow after her. You come out into another hallway, where Toriel begins another explanation.
"To make progress here, you will need to trigger several switches." Before you can respond, her smile widens and she adds, "Do not worry, I have labelled the ones that you need to flip."
Before that, you see two signs right in front of you. You check both of them out.

That's. Helpful?

Oops. You scurry back on to the path, a small grimace on your face. You think you see Toriel chuckling gently into her hand at the other end of the room. You walk down the path, looking for the switches Toriel mentioned.

...well, that wasn't too hard.
You flip the switch. Toriel nods and moves on. She stands in front of a set of spikes poking out of the ground. You see another similarly labeled switch, next to one that isn't labeled. For a second, you honestly kinda wonder what'd happen if you flipped the other one, but you decide it'd be better to just do what you're supposed to.
You flip the switch. The spikes behind Toriel retract. She looks really happy.
"Splendid! I am proud of you, little one. Let us move on to the next room."
She heads on ahead to, you assume, more puzzles.
...before you follow on, however, your curiosity gets the better of you. You grab the other switch and give it a yank.

Yeah, it's not budging.
You take a moment to feel a little silly and a little glad Toriel wasn't around to see that. Then you head after her.
Summary:
- You're not dead, thanks to the timely intervention of a monster named Toriel.
- She sent Flowey flying into next week. You gotta admit, after he tried to kill you, that was a liiiittle bit satisfying to see. You kinda hope he's not dead, though.
- Toriel took you into the RUINS and showed you how the puzzles worked. Mostly it just involved her solving them all for you, though...
- So far, Toriel seems really nice. Your frame of reference is pretty small, but, well, you definitely like her way more than Flowey, so far.
